Author's Message

In the book, A Child Called "IT," the author's message tells the reader the horrible conditions he was put through as a child. Dave Pelzer (the author of the book and the child who was abused) was abused by his mother for years, never knowing what he did to deserve this kind of treatment. His mother brainwashed him into thinking he was a bad boy and made sure he told lies to his teachers when they asked about his bruises, cuts, scars, and burn marks. His father tried to help him as much as he could, but it got to the point where his mother overpowered his father as well as taking over the entire house. His brothers pretended he did not exists and his mother referred to him as "the boy." Dave lived through a terrible time and sometimes he did not know if he would survive. He tells us his story as an eye opener to the kind of stuff that is happening and how makes readers realize they should not take life for granted.
